Rick Urban of Quality Controlled Manufacturing Receives Top CFO Award

Santee, Calif. (PRWEB) May 7, 2013 — As one of the nation’s leaders in complex machined components and assemblies, Quality Controlled Manufacturing Inc. (QCMI) is pleased to announce COO / CFO Rick Urban won the San Diego Business Journal’s 2013 CFO of the Year in the small privately-held company category. The San Diego Business Journal hosted its seventh annual awards program to honor the men and women who are the financial stewards of San Diego’s business, government and nonprofit sectors.

Nominated by Tim McDougal, Senior Vice President of California Bank & Trust, Urban was honored as a top CFO for his financial leadership of QCMI. It was under his fiscal scrutiny and financial awareness of manufacturing profit centers and off-shore manufacturing inadequacies, that the manufacturer achieved 62 percent growth in revenue from 2009 to 2011– reducing cost structures by $0.75 million resulting in QCMI’s best year in its three decade history.

To meet customers’ demands, Urban forecast a need to establish an Education / Training Competitive Workforce Initiative. The program included: a mentoring program for entry-level employees; promotion and training from within; partnering with transitioning military, high schools and colleges; and the creation of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit for an onsite training Academy.

Urban is an Executive Board Member of the East County Economic Development Corporation, and he serves as Chairman of the Manufacturing, Educational, and Workforce Subcommittee of the Supporting Education and Economic Development (SEED) committee. SEED brings high school, community colleges, universities and business communities together to build a vital workforce by sharing information and resources. In addition Urban champions the National Veterans Transition Services REBOOT Workshops, Wounded Warriors Foundation and Segs4Vets.

“It’s a great honor to be selected as one of San Diego’s top CFOs,” said Rick Urban. “It was definitely made possible because of our employees and company culture of continuous improvement. Our goal is to continue to be a world class manufacturing organization, honoring our UTC Supplier Gold Status as well as the other awards we have received and will receive. This undoubtedly will translate into creating future job opportunities for adults and veterans.”
