Manufacturer QCMI Wins San Diego’s 2014 #1 Healthiest Company Award in the Small Company Category

Santee, Calif. (PRWEB) June 2, 2013 — Quality Controlled Manufacturing Inc. (QCMI) is pleased to announce it won the 2014 #1 Healthiest Company Award in the Small Company Category (1 to 100 employees) sponsored by the San Diego Business Journal. The fifth annual awards event honored 50 companies and was held on May 7 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. Five awards were given in each of five categories: service provider, small company; medium company; large company and company headquartered outside of San Diego.

From the beginning of its formal wellness program in 2012, QCMI has achieved positive results in improving employee wellness, as well as reducing costs associated with health care and absenteeism. In addition to its day-to-day wellness initiatives for employees’ ongoing well-being, QCMI has improved its safety records and has seen a drop in workers comp claims — from $200,000 in 2011 to $405 in 2013.

QCMI was the #5 winner of last year’s Healthiest Company Event in the Small Company Category. For this year’s competition, the following wellness program initiatives moved QCMI into its 2014 first place: increased workforce activity in the health and wellness program by 25 percent; increased employees trained in CPR by 40 percent; and employees continued to have the opportunity to exercise and/or have nutritional consultations with the company’s onsite certified personal trainer. QCMI stepped up its wellness program interoffice promotional communications throughout the company’s offices, plant, break rooms and onsite gym.

According to Armon Mills, president and publisher of the San Diego Business Journal, as wellness initiatives have become commonplace in day-to-day business practices, statistics continue to show that a healthy employee is more motivated, more productive, and more committed to the success of the organization. The Healthiest Companies awards program is designed to honor forward-thinking companies that have created new models for employee health.

“We are thrilled at being recognized as San Diego’s #1 healthiest company in the small company category. Our wellness program actually began with the purchase and renovation of our corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in 2009,” said Founder, CEO and President Bob Grande. “We purposely included an onsite state-of-the-art circuit training gym and two modern, kitchen-equipped break rooms. In 2012 we hired a part-time Certified Personal Trainer. Our employees are able to schedule personalized workouts and get nutrition coaching on a regular basis. It’s been a win-win!”

“With the substantial decrease in Workers Comp claims paid out – from $200,000 in 2011 to $405 in 2013, we are certain that the financial benefits outweigh our annual wellness investment of approximately $325 per employee,” said COO / CFO, Rick Urban.
