QCMI Wins #1 Healthiest Companies Award Second Consecutive Year

Precision machining, Quality Controlled Manufacturing Inc. is pleased to announce it was named the 2015 #1 Healthiest Company in the Small-business category by the San Diego Business Journal for the second consecutive year.

Santee, Calif. (PRWEB) May 28, 2013 — Quality Controlled Manufacturing Inc. (QCMI) is pleased to announce it received the 2015 #1 Healthiest Companies Award in the Small-business category (1 to 100 employees) sponsored by the San Diego Business Journal for the second consecutive year. The sixth annual awards event honored 45 companies including finalists. More than 400 guests attended the May 7 event at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa. In all 31 awards were given in each of seven categories: small company; medium company; large company, mega company, company based outside of San Diego, service provider and rising star.

QCMI qualified for the #5 position in 2013, and it made the #1 rank in 2014. For this year’s entry, QCMI launched its “12 Steps to a Healthier You” campaign. The program involved both nutritional and physical activities. Two personal trainers led group activities and completed health screenings. Other key components of its wellness program include: tobacco cessation, stress / weight management, employee assistance programs and more. QCMI promotes its programs via seven intranet TV screens, a company newsletter, signage near the time clocks, and posters in the break room positioned right over the company’s free fruit table.

In 2012 when it initiated its five day a week certified trainer, employees went through a thorough health screening evaluation and assessment. The manufacturer’s workforce was considered 50 percent obese. Last year the percentage dropped to 25 percent — this year’s winning numbers lost another 15 percent.

QCMI has achieved positive results in improving employee wellness, as well as reducing costs associated with health care and absenteeism. In addition to its day-to-day wellness initiatives for employees’ ongoing well-being, QCMI has improved its safety records. The manufacturer has seen a drop in workers comp claims — from $200,000 in 2011 to $1495 in 2012 to $408 in 2013 with zero dollars paid out in 2014.

According to Armon Mills, president and publisher of the San Diego Business Journal, forward-thinking organizations have moved rapidly from traditional basic health care and retirement benefits to a host of inventive programs that address a holistic approach to employee wellness, satisfaction and retention. The Healthiest Companies awards program is designed to honor companies that have created new models for employee health.

“It’s a credit to our employees and their commitment to a healthy lifestyle that QCMI is once again a #1 Healthiest Small-business Company in San Diego,” Said CEO and President Bob Grande. “It’s our goal to continue to support our team with health and fitness initiatives that keep us engaged and energized. We know our wellness programs contribute to our thriving company culture.”

“Our founder Bob Grande was ahead of the current fitness curve when he purposely included an onsite state-of-the-art circuit training gym and two modern, kitchen-equipped break rooms in the purchase and renovation of QCMI’s headquarters in 2009,” said COO/CFO Rick Urban. “His foresight has made it possible for our team members to lead the region in establishing an award-winning health conscious work environment.”
