Precision Manufacturer QCMI CEO Bob Grande Receives Business Leadership Award

Santee, Calif. March 13, 2012 — Quality Controlled Manufacturing (QCMI), a precision manufacturer, is pleased to announce CEO William “Bob” Grande received the Santee Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 Business Leadership Award.  The chamber awards celebration was held on February 10, 2012 at the Barona Resort and Casino.  Grande was recognized for his business leadership. His vision for local economic development has paralleled that of the local Santee Chamber of Commerce for the last 33 years. QCMI currently has 99 employees. Over 40 percent of the employees have been with QCMI for over 14 years, with 60 percent residing in the East County region.

Santee incorporated in December 1980. With a population of 54,700 and located in eastern San Diego County, Santee is the eleventh largest of San Diego County’s 18 cities. Located in Santee, QCMI is a precision manufacturer producing components and assemblies with complex shapes and contours, with exacting tolerances and stringent quality requirements for the aerospace, power generation, Department of Defense (DOD), oil and gas, marine, and heavy equipment industries.

QCMI was founded by Bob Grande in October 1978 in his 1000 sq. ft. garage in Santee with one employee. In eight years QCMI expanded to a 7,000 sq. ft. facility. With continued demand for the company’s precision machining, in 1992 Grande and a team of 35+ engineers, machinists and admin moved into a 27,000 sq. ft. facility. The city of Santee was ideal for supporting growth — both in land to expand, as well as providing an accessible employee base. In 2008 Grande purchased a building at 9429 Abraham Way in Santee. The renovated manufacturing facility serves as QCMI corporate headquarters with 65,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing and admin space. Combined with the 27,000 sq. ft. Lakeside facility and a 6,000 sq. ft. research and development center in El Cajon, Calif., the three facilities encompass a total of 98,000 sq. ft.

“It’s a distinct honor to receive the Santee Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award,” said Bob Grande. “In this our 34th year of making Santee our corporate home, we are proud to play a role in supporting the economic development of the region and provide jobs for the community. In addition QCMI is pleased to support chamber events and serve as an example of sustained business growth in the East County.”
